Parents have until noon today (Thursday, Feb. 8) to register their child for First Baptist Church’s monthly Parents Night Out childcare program.

DirectorChanelHayner said that the cast decided to again use the play “Oz” which they performed last yearandwerepickedasthe district’s alternate with fourth place.

A number of Albany students will compete in theAbileneWylieValentine UIL Classic on Saturday at Wylie High School. UIL director Rick Davis said this is the second practice meet of the season in preparation for the district contest set for April 3 in Anson.

TheAlbany PTO is seeking sponsorships or donations to use during the annual Albany ISD staff appreciation week set for March 18-22 at both local campuses. The group decided at theirannualorganizational meetinginJanuarytobegin aprogramofprovidingsupport forlocalteachers,along with showing appreciation duringthespecialweekand throughout the school year.

Wesley Estridge of Albany graduated with his Welding Certificate – Advanced Processes from South Plains College in Fall 2023.

Estridge was among more than 400 students who were recognized by South Plains for academic achievement.

Wesley is the son of Val and Blake Estridge of Albany.

Albany FFAmembers closedouttheirparticipation at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo last week and immediately entered competition at the San Angelo Stock Show. At Fort Worth, seven Albany students showed barrows with four placing.

With just over a week remaining in the filing period for several local May 4 elections, two more incumbents signed up this week for reelection to their terms on various boards. Lynda Stockton filed for a term on the Moran ISD board of trustees, and Sam Snyder turned in paperwork foranotherthree-year terms on the Fort Griffin SUD board.

A bake sale is planned for this Saturday, Feb. 10 to benefit Albany High Schoolbandmemberswho haven’t yet reached their goal to go on the spring break band trip to Branson, Missouri.

Starting today, most downtown merchants are again handing out entry forms for a Valentine drawing, with the winners receiving a $50 gift certificate for one of the participating businesses. The drawings will be held on Feb.
