MISD adds holiday Feb. 1

Trustees for the Moran Independent School District added a student holiday to the 2019 spring semester during their regular board meeting on Dec. 17. Because of the change, MISD will not have classes on Friday, Feb. 1.

Filing starts Jan. 16 for local elections

Local residents who want to run for city council, hospital district, or school board positions in the Saturday, May 4 election may begin filing the required paperwork on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Filing closes a month later on Friday, Feb. 15 at 5:00 p.m. There is no filing fee.

The official year-end deadline for the Albany Chest loomed large a few days before Christmas with the 2018 campaign more than $9,000 short of its record goal, but several last-minute donations, both large and small, have put the drive over the top, according to board president Amy Kelly.

Only a few cases of influenza have been seen at the local clinics so far this winter, and according to Jera Fairley from the Shackelford County Heath Clinic, the patients that tested positive for influenza at that clinic all had one important thing in common.

ASU lists Britting, Reddin

Levi Cole Britting and Kaitlyn Brooke Reddin of Albany are listed on the Dean’s List for the 2018 Fall semester at Angelo State University. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
