Local residents who want to run for city council, hospital district, or school board positions in the Saturday, May 4 election may begin filing the required paperwork on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Filing closes a month later on Friday, Feb. 15 at 5:00 p.m. There is no filing fee.

Albany City Council

The position of mayor and two Albany city council seats, each for a two-year term, are up for election. Applications will be available at City Hall from city secretary Becky Wiloth.

The seats currently filled by council members Joe Tidwell and Carolyn Waller and mayor Rodney Alexander will be voted on this year.

There are no designated seats in the city elections, except for the office of mayor.

The top two candidates will be elected from the slate of applicants for council positions.

Those with questions should call the city secretary’s office at 325-762-3133.

Albany ISD

Board of Trustees

Albany ISD has three trustee spots that are up for election in 2019. The places are for full three-year terms.

Candidates in the Albany school election must file for a specific seat on the board and must live within the boundaries of the school district.

Applications will be available at the superintendent’s office at the secondary school campus.

Up for election this May are the trustee positions held by Kelly Head for Place 5, Pam Davis for Place 6, and current board president Betsy Parsons for Place 7.

Shackelford County

Hospital Board

The Shackelford County Hospital Board will have three of seven seats on the May ballot.

The three full-term, two-year seats currently held by Leslie Belcher, Jo Ann Estridge, and Mike Bean will expire.

Election information and applications will be available from Regina Whitt at the hospital district office at 840 Gregg Street.

Hospital candidates must have their applications signed by 10 registered Shackelford County voters.

“I am recommending that applicants obtain one or two extra signatures just in case someone that signs is not a current registered voter,” said Whitt. “We had that happen last year.”

Moran City Council

The Moran city council will select two at-large city council seats during the spring election. The council seats are currently occupied by Lisa McFerrin and Stanley Reves.

The two-year term for Moran mayor is also up for election this cycle. Steve Taggart is the current office holder.

Those with questions can call Jackie Wallace at 325-945-3441.

Moran ISD

Board of Trustees

Two at-large positions on the Moran ISD school board are up for election. Applicants must live in the school district to serve. Seats up for election are currently filled by Sam Snyder and Alice Branham.

Snyder is finishing out the term that was left vacant when Cory Riley was transferred to a new location by the military.

Board members serve three-year terms.

Packets for Moran ISD school board positions will be available in the superintendent’s office during school hours.
