Trustees for the Moran Independent School District added a student holiday to the 2019 spring semester during their regular board meeting on Dec. 17.

Because of the change, MISD will not have classes on Friday, Feb. 1.

The update to the MISD calendar was done in response to the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association changing the day of the local stock show from Jan. 24-26 to Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.

“We will still have a student holiday on Jan. 25 as previously scheduled,” said Moran superintendent Danny Freeman. “We added a student holiday on Feb. 1. The staff comp day was moved from Jan. 25 to Feb 1, and a staff professional development day has been added on Jan. 25.”

Six Moran FFA students have entered animal projects in the Shackelford County stock show, according to ag instructor Matthew Hise.

Shackelford County extension agent Michaela Bradford said that there is also one Moran student who is showing at the county show as a 4-H member.

The Shackelford County Youth & Livestock Association rescheduled the local livestock show last fall in order to better coordinate with the dates for the Fort Worth Stock Show.
