Shackelford Co. runners help HSU win conference

The Hardin Simmons Cowgirls recently won the American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championship thanks in a large part to Shackelford County graduates Baley Green and Sydney Ten Cate. HSU senior Sydney Ten Cate graduated from Moran, while college freshman Baley Green is from Albany.

Fire damages Brownwood home

A house fire in Brownwood at 6:30 a.m. on the morning of April 18 caused major damage to the home of Albany alumnus Aidalu Delgado Price, and although the family is fine and has a temporary place to live, the home was uninsured.

Commodities to be distributed

Pick-up dates for the May distribution of the commodity food program are May 2 and 3. On Thursday, May 2, certified eligible families in Moran should pick up their monthly commodity food at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Lions face Cross Plains at bi-district

The Lion baseball team clawed their way back to second place in District 8-2A with a 4-1 win over the Haskell Indians last week in Hermleigh. The game was orginally scheduled in Albany but was moved due to weather conditions.

Pole vaulter advances to state

Several members of the Albany track teams competed last week at the Region I-2A meet in Levelland, with senior Caroline Masters advancing for a second year to the state track meet in the pole vault.

Seniors receive awards

A recap of Albany High’s athletic success during the 2018-2019 school year was given at the annual All-Sports Banquet on Tuesday, including the announcement of several special memorial awards. Coaches for each sport also recognized their teams, along with handing out various sport-specific awards.

Softball season ends at bi-district

The Lady Lions allowed the Windthorst Lady Trojans to jump out to an early lead during the bi-district playoff game last Thursday, then watched any hope of advancing slip away despite an admirable effort to recover.
