Outdoor sports camp draws 80 participants

By Donnie A. Lucas About 80 elementary age students took part this week in what may be the only youth sports camp offered this summer. The all outdoor camp was divided into two sessions, with about 55 registered in the K-3 group and 25 in the 4-6 grade level.

Close to 90 play in golf tournament

By Donnie A. Lucas Golfers entered in the annual Fathers Day tournament sponsored by the Albany Golf Club were able to get in two days of golf with good weather conditions. A total of 84 players participated in the annual tourney. “The tournament went really well,” organizer James Waters said.

Trinity Episcopal meets in person

By Lynsi Musselman Members of Trinity Episcopal Church have resumed on-site and in- person worship services. Sunday, June 14 was the first service since mid-March, according to church member Larry Bell.  Rev. Jim Smart served as preacher and celebrant for Holy Communion last weekend.

Conditions spark 5 wildfires

By Lynsi Musselman Over the past two weeks Shackelford County residents have seen five wildfires light up local pastures. Shackelford County Rural Volunteer Fire Department secretary Kristy Brooker said approximately 2,000 acres have burned since June 9.

Old Jail prepares to open July 1

By Lynsi Musselman The Old Jail Art Center opened to members by appointment only on Tuesday, June 16. OJAC director Pat Kelly said there have only been a few members visit the museum so far. “A low number of visitors to start out is what we expected,” Kelly said.

Parents of seniors to meet Sunday

Parents of seniors who will be in the Albany High School Class of 2021 are asked to attend a meeting on Sunday afternoon, June 28 in the AHS auditorium. According to secondary counselor Jenny Scott, the special meeting will start at 2:00 p.m., with social distancing to be observed.
