The Old Jail Art Center opened to members by appointment only on Tuesday, June 16.

OJAC director Pat Kelly said there have only been a few members visit the museum so far.

“A low number of visitors to start out is what we expected,” Kelly said. “We were hoping for a slow process to get a plan in place for when we open to the public,” Kelly said.

OJAC will open to all visitors beginning Wednesday, July 1. Visitor hours will be 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The museum will begin to open on Saturdays, as well, starting July 11 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Kelly said there will be a limited number of visitors allowed at one time, and masks will be required to be worn before entering the museum.

“Visitors who do not have a mask can buy one from the OJAC at our cost,” Kelly said.

OJAC staff will disinfect before opening each day, between visitors, and after the museum closes for the afternoon.

“There will only be one restroom open to visitors to cut down on areas to clean,” Kelly said.

For members and visitors wanting to remain cautious, the OJAC will continue virtual programs posted on the OJAC Facebook and Instagram pages, and at www.theojac.org.

New and renewing OJAC memberships are available through www.theoldjail.org or by calling 325-762-2269.
