The team of Williams and Harris tied with Barton and Balliew to win the Championship Flight at the annual Albany Labor Day Golf Tournament. Both teams had a two-day total of 128 strokes, followed by Clegg and Fairchild in third with 129.
One hundred and six players, grouped into 53 teams of two players each, ended up competing in the tournament.
Scores from Saturday’s rounds were used to divide the teams into four flights on Sunday.

Both the seventh and eighth grade girls won their volleyball matches last week against Woodson.
The eighth grade girls hosted Moran’s junior high on Tuesday, while the seventh grade team was on the road at Abilene Christian School on Tuesday. Results of the games were not available at press time but will be reported next week.
The seventh and eighth grade Red teams will travel to Abilene Christian School on Monday, Sept. 14 for games starting at 4:30 p.m.

Water customers in the City of Moran will see an increase in their bills starting with the Oct. 1 billing cycle.
The new rates include an increase of $5.75 to the base charge that covers the first 2,000 gallons of usage.
For excess usage above 2,000 gallons, the new rate will be $14.50 to $23.00 per 1,000 gallons, compared to the current flat rate of $11.30 per 1,000 gallons.

The Bulldogs are getting geared up to play at home against Rotan this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Moran Independent School District athletic director John Hughes said the team has a big test against 2-0 Rotan, but the guys have improved each week and are ready to compete.
Last week, after Evant school district learned of positive COVID-19 cases, that game was cancelled and Moran picked up a game in Santa Anna, where the Bulldogs came up short 35-74.
The junior high team played its first game in Rotan on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Members of Moran’s First Baptist Church will host a special event on Sunday, Sept. 20 starting at 10:00 a.m.
Beverly and Jim Pool from the Dallas area will perform a signing and praising Jesus event.
Pastor Richard Jackson will preach God’s Word following the concert.
Weather permitting, the event will be outside at FBC Moran.

Albany ISD officials were notified late Tuesday afternoon that a local secondary student has tested positive for -COVID-19, and they immediately began working through protocol to notify student families and staff about the lab-confirmed case.
AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott said Tuesday night that any students or staff that were determined to be in close contact with the infected individual will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus.

Opening day of dove season is like a holiday in Albany, especially when it brings cooler temperatures and rain.
Early morning gunshots were heard on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when the 2020 season began.
As the week moved into Labor Day weekend, out of town hunters and locals hit the fields and the town.
Richardson resident Wilson Allen, who came with several hunters from the Metroplex as a group with McCarthy Partners, said not only does Albany sit in a great flight pattern for dove but the town is a lure as well.

Following a series of budget workshops over the past month, Shackelford County commissioners met in a special session on Tuesday morning, Sept. 8 to propose a deficit budget for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1 and a tax rate that promises to raise “no-new-revenue” (NNR) for the upcoming tax year.
The only part of the proposed budget that was discussed Tuesday morning was increasing county employee salaries by three percent, accounting for an additional $70,000, including retirement, Social Security, and Medicare costs.

The Old Jail Art Center announces two new exhibitions set to open on Saturday, Sept. 12 and run through Jan. 30, 2021.
OJAC executive director Patrick Kelly said the new exhibits will appeal to the interests of a broad audience.
“Basil Clemons’ photographs give historical insight into life in West Texas some 100 years ago,” Kelly explained. “Houston artist Charis Ammon’s paintings are thoughtful and represent much more than just a record of what we encounter in urban areas.”

Albany resident Amy Kelly, along with Shackelford County officials announce the Your Vote Matters voter registration and voter participation campaign.
Kelly is the campaign volunteer deputy registrar and hopes to increase voter awareness and participation in Shackelford County.
She explained the campaign really helps people know the when, who, how, why, and where of the local voting process.
