Albany hosted the District 10-2A junior high track and field meet Saturday, April 2, taking on athletes from Anson, Cisco, Hamlin, Haskell, Hawley, and Stamford.
The Cubs placed fourth in the eighth grade boys division with 74 points and tied for third in the seventh grade boys division with 93 points.
The Lady Cubs placed fifth in the eighth grade girls team standings with 60 points and second among seventh grade girls with 84 points.

The Moran meat judging team won its judging contest Sunday, March 27 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, wrapping up a busy week that saw students cover much of the state.
The team competed at Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, March 22, placing 11th.
The students continued competition with two events last week. On Friday, April 1, Moran finished 25th at San Angelo. That was followed Saturday, April 2 with 14th place at Texas Tech.

Moran track and field teams continued preparing for district competition by competing March 31 at the Tiger Relays in May.
The Lady Bulldogs finished sixth in the girls team standings with 58 points, winning five events,while the boys team tied for 14th place with two points.
“Overall, we’re extremely pleased with the results from this meet,” coach John Hughes said. “Going and running in the bigger meets the past three weeks worked in our favor.”

The Moran Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Easter egg hunt at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Moran City Park.
Tyler George of the MVFD said the hunt is open to all ages. The event will be held in conjunction with a Moran PTO bake sale.
“We’ve got close to 4,000 eggs for the kids to hunt,” George said.
Marza Emogene Boyett White passed away at the age of 98 on Mar. 24, 2022. Marza was born Nov. 20, 1923, to Jasper Zant Boyett and Elpha Brown Boyett in the community of Ibex in Stephens County, Texas.
A graveside service is planned for May 14 in the Albany Cemetery, tentatively set for 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life.
She attended public schools in Ibex, Moran, and Breckenridge, graduating in 1941. She married J.C. White in June of 1951 and worked in the operation of J.C. White Tank Company for twenty years.

During the first five minutes of a special called Sunday evening meeting of the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors, Albany native Brandi Green was selected as the district’s new administrator.
Green was one of seven applicants for the position, which has been vacant since Jera Fairley left in June 2021. She has been the office manager at the district’s health clinic for several years and had assumed many of the administrator’s duties after Fairley’s departure.

About a dozen citizens attended an advertised public hearing Monday morning regarding proposed subdivision regulations for the unincorporated portions of Shackelford County.
County judge Robert Skelton opened the hearing by stating that commissioners had no underlying intentions in their plan to put the regulations in place.

The Landreth Dam bridge reopened to traffic on Saturday, March 26, following the completion of permanent repairs to the historic structure.
Traffic in the eastern part of Shackelford County had been disrupted since late November after an excavator struck the crossbeams of each portal.
Vehicle traffic on the bridge, which crosses Hubbard Creek on FM Road 601, was stopped until temporary repairs were made in January. Then another motorist went through a barricade and struck a piece of equipment, further delaying repairs.

Albany city council members unanimously approved the proposed budget of $3,475,400 following the required public hearing at a special session on Monday, March 28.
The city’s new fiscal year starts April 1.
There was no one from the public present to discuss the figures.

With the Sampler of this year’s Ft. Griffin Fandangle just over two weeks away, cast and crew members are urged to attend the remaining rehearsals to prepare for the show, which is being held for the first time in 25 years at Reynolds Bend on the Matthews Ranch.
Practices for the sampler, which is a shortened version of this year’s production, began three weeks ago. Rehearsals are scheduled to Thursday (tonight) at the Bank Park and again next Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m.
