The Moran meat judging team won its judging contest Sunday, March 27 at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, wrapping up a busy week that saw students cover much of the state.

The team competed at Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, March 22, placing 11th.

The students continued competition with two events last week. On Friday, April 1, Moran finished 25th at San Angelo. That was followed Saturday, April 2 with 14th place at Texas Tech.

Moran will compete in the FFA Area 4 contest Saturday, April 9 at Lubbock with an eye on qualifying for state.

“Minnie Denson is practicing with them every day,” Denson said. “We’re going to give the other teams a run for their money.”

Johnnie Hise was the high individual at the Sul Ross contest with Hannah Rogers ranking third.

Moran’s vet tech team finished fourth at Sul Ross State. The vet tech team, made up entirely of junior high students, finished 43rd at Cisco College on March 22 and 34th at Clarendon College.

“Going to all these college campuses, we’re exposing students to educational opportunities open to them,” Denson said.
