MISD track team to compete Friday

Moran track and field teams continued preparing for district competition by competing March 31 at the Tiger Relays in May.

The Lady Bulldogs finished sixth in the girls team standings with 58 points, winning five events,while the boys team tied for 14th place with two points.

“Overall, we’re extremely pleased with the results from this meet,” coach John Hughes said. “Going and running in the bigger meets the past three weeks worked in our favor.”

Moran has one final outing before district on Friday, April 8 at the Pirate Relays in Priddy. The meet was added to the schedule to replace a Rising Star meet, cancelled because of bad weather.

The District 13-1A meet is scheduled for Thursday, April 14 at May. The top four finishers in each event advance to the area meet with District 14-1A. The area meet will be Wednesday, April 20 at May.

At the Tiger Relays, Alli Scott won three events and was second in a fourth. Scott claimed gold in the 100 hurdles (16.34), 300 hurdles (49.81), and long jump (16-3¾), and silver in the high jump (4-10).

Hannah Noble won the 100 (12.75) and the 200 (27.44).

Samantha Hinkle was seventh in the shot put (26-10).

Alayna Baker and Allyssa Allred also competed in the sprints. Baker ran 15.93 and 36.65. Allred had times of 16.2 and 34.62.

Harmony Slaughter  competed in the 1600 (9:02) and the shot put and discus. Hannah Rogers also  competed in the throwing events.

The boys 400 relay of Ellis Hise, Connor Hail, Tyler Waddell, and Arren Hawley was sixth in 49.96.

Hawley was  eighth in the 100 (12.09) and seventh in the 200 (25.32)

Waddell  was seventh in the 400 (59.32) and competed in the 800 (2:48.13).

Hail  competed in the 100 (12.6) and the 200 (26.41). Hise competed in the 800 (2:50.3) and the 400 (1:07.5). Cotten Campbell and Riley Noble competed in the shot put and discus.

Junior High Track

Moran competed in the District 13-1A junior high meet Friday, April 1 at Cross Plains.

The girls finished sixth with 42 points. The 400 relay of Cassandra Mendez, Jayla Bussell, Jaelynn Cottell, and Ashlyn Crawford finished fifth.

Mendez won the 200, was second in the 100 and sixth in the long jump. Bussell was third in the 800 and fifth in the 400.

Leanna Sikes was  second in the shot put and fifth in the discus with Kacenda Thompkins sixth in the discus.

Cottell also competed in the 400 and 800, while Crawford also competed in the 100 and 200.

For the Moran boys, Chase Murk, Cutter Campbell, and Landon Moreno competed but did not post qualifying times or marks.
