More than 40 players signed up to participate in the Albany Pickleball League. Organizer Chelsea Parsons said 10 teams will compete in women’s doubles with about a dozen inmixed.Someplayerswill compete in both divisions.

The team of Nelson, Nelson, and Nelson closed with the tournament’s low round to win the Championship Flight of theAlbany Golf Club’s Father’s Day Tournament, played Saturday- Sunday, June 15-16 at Albany Golf Course. The winning trio shot 60-56–116 to make up a two-stroke deficit and top two other teams by three shots.

Every player in the Albany Lions’ starting lineup earned a spot on the All-District 8-2A baseball team, which was officially released this week after district opponent Hawley was eliminated at the state tournament. The Lions went 19-4 overall and 8-2 in district, claiming a share of the district championship by winning six in a row to finish the regular season.

Twin sisters Braylyn and Brooklyn Abbate are understandablyclose,having never been apart from each other for more than four days at a time. That will change this fall as they matriculate to different colleges, but they’re getting in some last big events together before then in the 2024 Big Country FCA All-Star Festival.

Albany Little League’s Majors and Minors All-Stars tuned up for the Texas West Little League District 5All-Star Tournament by hosting Breckenridge teams Monday, June 10 for scrimmage games. “They competed under game conditions,” Albany Little League president Paul Hamilton said.
