By Sandy Morris Several Albany residents competed at the 36th annual Western Heritage Classic in Abilene earlier this month after last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID concerns. Ranch Rodeo Matthews/Nail Ranch of Albany won first place in the Ranch Rodeo division.

By Sandy Morris Shackelford County ResourceCare hosted the 17th annual spring health fair at the Bank Park last Friday, May 14. “We had students from Nancy Smith Elementary School and Mother’s Day Out here in Albany, and Moran brought 60 students,” said ResourceCare program director Mindy Ary.

Taylor Scott of Albany was listed on the Dean’s List at Midwestern State University for the spring 2021  semester. She completed 12 or more hours with a grade point average of 3.50 to 3.74. Taylor Scott is the daughter of Jonathan and Jenny Scott and is studying Radiologic Technology.

Jordan Pleasant graduated cum laude May 7 from Hardin Simmons University with a degree in business administration.  A 2017 Albany High graduate, he is the son of Jeff and Ricia Pleasant and grandson of Gerald and Ruby Petree, all of Albany.

By Sandy Morris The Nancy Smith Elementary School Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is hosting a “Dunk Challenge” fundraiser.  SHAC is collecting money to decide which four staff members will face the dunk tank during the NSES field day on May 24.

By Sandy Morris Hannah Trail and Barrett Beal were crowned queen and king during the Albany High School Junior-Senior Prom held Saturday, May 15 at the Whitney Theatre. The king and queen are selected by the members of the junior and senior classes.

By Sandy Morris Albany High School counselors will host a dual-credit meeting at the AHS library starting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26. Jenny Scott and Michaela Bradford will present the dual-credit course offerings for the 2021-2022 school year.

By Sandy Morris Fandangle practices are going well and have been well attended, according to Fandangle artistic director Lorna Ayers. The original Sunday rehearsal schedule also has changed. “Practice will begin at 6:30 p.m. for Lavender Cowboy and Big Sisters,” said Ayers.
