All residents from around the Shackelford County area are invited to attend the Albany Lions Club sponsored Memorial Day service set for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 31 at the Aztec Theater.

Albany resident, veteran, and helicopter pilot Jacey Shack will be the speaker at the Memorial Day service sponsored by the Albany Lions Club.

According to Lions Club member Sandi Conway, Shack was asked to speak to represent the younger generation of military veterans.

“We have several younger active and retired military members in the county, and we hope to start including them in upcoming events,” said Conway.

The annual service is an opportunity for the community to come together to honor all military veterans, especially those who originated from Shackelford County, and  to remember those who have served and still serve in the military. The ceremony is also a celebration of the  freedoms that Americans have today as a result of the sacrifice of those who fought and still fight for our country.

“The service is not open only to veterans,” Conway said. “Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend this  special event.”

The service will be hosted by Lions Club president Bob Skelton and will include Lions Club Sweetheart Sidney Bartee performing the National Anthem on her violin and the Albany Boy Scouts serving as color guard.

Pastor Brad McBee will give the invocation and pastor Paul Johnston will close with the benediction.

Refreshments will be available after the service.

“All veterans are invited to come to the service,” Conway said. “If anyone wants the name of a recently departed Shackelford County veteran read during the service, please contact me.”

Conway also said she or any other Lions Club member can be contacted at 325-762-2198 if someone is interested in joining the organization.
