A lockdown at the Albany secondary campus on Tuesday, ordered as the result of an altercation taking place a few blocks away, lasted just a few minutes, but ended with a local man arrested and charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer, along with a secondary charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Albany citizens are reminded that this weekend May 10-12 will be the annual “Weekend Trash Dump, with large rolloffs to be located on the Chamber of Commerce parking lot. The event will give local residentsanopportunityto get rid of large, unwanted items at no charge and with three-day weekend access.

ChallengerReggySpencer defeated incumbent Bo Brown for the Place 3 seat in the Albany ISD trustee election, held last Saturday, May 4. Spencer ended up with 177 votes to Brown’s even 100, the great majority of those ballots recorded during the early voting period or by mail.
