Concert schedule adjusted for playoff

Thescheduleforthreeof the four end-of-year band concerts originally set for Thursday, May 16 at the highschoolauditoriumhas changed due to a playoff baseball game earlier in the day. The high school band, which includes grade 8 through 12, will still perform at 8:00 p.m.

Fandangle practice underway

Rehearsals for the summer performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle started this week, and local residents interested in participating are urged to attend as soon a possible. Practices for the four summershowssetforJune 21-22 and June 28-29 are being held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during May and the first week of June before expanding to also include Wednesdays two weeks before opening night.

Albany to face Hawley in quarterfinals

The Albany Lions overcame one rough inning to sweep their Class 2A area baseball playoff series against Eldorado last week, sending the Lions to the third round for the ninth season in a row. Albany (19-2) will take on District 8-2A rival Hawley in the regional quarterfinals at McMurry’sWaltDriggersField, which is hosting another series this weekend.

Tennis team dominates at regional, sends 6 to state

Albany entries dominated the Region II-2Atennis tournament last week, winning four of five draws to qualify for state. The Class 2A state tournament will be played Thursday-Friday, May 16-17 at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio.
Albany teams won four division titles and brought home medals in five events from the regional tennis tournament last week in North Richland Hills, with six athletes advancing to the state tourney this Thursday and Friday in San Antonio.
