JV rolls past Cross Plains 48-8

TheAlbany Lions junior varsity football team rolled to its second consecutive lopsided victory Thursday, Oct. 12, defeating Cross Plains 48-8 at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium.

Hospital board approves raises

Two new directors, James Breeden and David Henry, were sworn in at the beginning of a meeting of the Shackelford CountyHospitalDistrict’sboard of directors that eventually yielded a five percent raise for pharmacy employees and for district administrator Brandi Green. Morethanhalfofthemeeting was spent in closed session, discussing employee evaluations, as well as a couple of items that didn’t appear to qualify as they were listed.

Homecoming royalty to be crowned Friday

The 2023 homecoming parade is set to roll through downtown on Friday featuring Albany High School and ex-student royalty, followed by presentation of the homecoming court and crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen during the halftime ofAlbany vs. Roscoe homecoming game with a 7:00 p.m.

For the second consecutive year, the Ragin’ Red Band earned Division I ratings from all three judges at the Region 6 UIL Marching Contest earlier this week, advancing to the 2A Area Marching Contest in Amarillo on Saturday. Albany was one of 26 bands that performed at regional contest Monday at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene, receiving a top rating from each of the judges to move on to the next level.
