Blood drive planned Sept. 12

The Hendrick Regional Blood Center bloodmobile will be at First Baptist Church on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Hendrick Regional Blood Center supplies all of the blood and blood products used for patient care at 17 area hospitals.

Dove numbers get mixed reviews

By Kathy Thomson The 2019 dove season started on Sunday, Sept. 1 with mixed reviews expressed by those in Shackelford County. Some hunters saw a lot of dove, and others only a few, according to local game warden Jacob Mort.  “It was an average start to a season,” Mort said.

Varsity records 4-set victory over Bangs

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Lion volleyball teams traveled to Clyde last week, with all three squads recording losses to the 3A Lady Bulldogs. Albany hosted Bangs on Tuesday with better results. The varsity posted a 25-11, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22 win to improve to 9-8 for the season.

41 teams play in golf tourney

By Kathy Thomson The team of Terrell and Stegall won the Championship Flight at the annual Albany Labor Day Golf Tournament with a two day total of 124 strokes, followed by Windsor and Windsor in second with 125, and Rincon and Rincon with a score of 126 for third place.

AJHS to open 2019 season

By Donnie A. Lucas Both junior high football and volleyball programs are slated to start competition on Thursday (today). Volleyball teams will host Wylie East at 4:30 p.m. with the seventh grade teams playing in the auxiliary gym and the eighth grade in the main gym.

JV Lions shut out Wolves 36-0

By Donnie A. Lucas The JV Lions opened the season last Thursday at home, shutting out the Colorado City Wolves 36-0. The Lions will travel to Dublin on Thursday (today) for another pre-district bout. The JV will follow the two junior high games which start at 4:30 p.m.
