Long time Albany resident J.M. Moore was honored as a distinguished alumni by the Cisco College Wrangler Belles during their performance in Cisco during halftime of the college’s Homecoming game with Trinity Valley Community College on Sept. 30.

The city of Albany received a sales tax allotment of $48,272 from the state in August of 2018, up 12.37 percent from the $42,957 payment received in August of 2017, and received an allotment of $44,955 this September. The September payment is 1.

The Albany Fall Ball team plays teams from all over the Abilene area and is doing well this year, according to assistant manager Tony Wheeler. Wheeler’s son Lyle, one of the players, reported that the team is undefeated so far.

The City of Moran Volunteer Fire Department is hosting “Fall Fun in the Park” at the Moran City Park this Saturday, Oct. 20, starting at 5:00 p.m. Free activities include live music by Southern Trail, Trunk or Treat, games, and a bounce house.

The Bulldogs won by forfeit last Friday, when Three Way could not field a varsity team and had to cancel the football game.  A win is not expected to be as easy tomorrow, Oct. 19, when coach Harley Ethridge and his team travel to Gustine to take on the Tigers with the kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.

Everett Milton Waldrep (Uncle Miltie), age 78, of Moran, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Borger, Texas, on July 20, 1940, to Henry Everett (Hank) Waldrep and Clara (Bradford) Waldrep. He married Leatha Faye (Davis) Waldrep on Sept 24, 1960.

The caravan celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Texas Forts Trail arrived at Fort Griffin on Thursday morning, with park employee Eric Abercrombie presenting a history of the fort, the Flat, and the Fandangle.

Trying to snap a five-game losing streak – the worst start since the 1956 season – the Albany Lions will open district Friday with a homecoming bout against the visiting Baird Bears. Kickoff at Robert Nail Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Lady Lion volleyball girls split district games last week as they started the second round of district action. Albany hosted Hawley, the District 6-2A leader, on Tuesday. The Lady Lions lost the match 10-25, 13-25, 21-25. Complete results will be printed next week.

Members of the Albany Golf Club are encouraged to attend the club’s annual business meeting at the municipal golf course on Saturday, Oct. 20, and then stay and play in the Championship Tournament starting at 1:00 p.m. that afternoon.
