Christmas feast set Dec. 25

Members of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will once again prepare a Christmas feast for those that might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy a holiday meal, but they will  not offer a dine-in option this year.

The Oil Belt District banquet and district talent contest were held last Monday, Dec. 3 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene and local FFA members were in attendance.

Toys for Tots provides for 132 children

Parents who applied for Toys for Tots should have picked up their kids’ presents at the Youth Center this Wednesday. “We sorted the gifts by families, and had them ready for parents to pick them up,” said Resource Care case worker Makenzie Marshall. “We don’t wrap them.

The Albany Lions defeated Hamlin 41-28 in the quarterfinals last week, and the Albany Athletic Booster Club invites local fans to continue showing their belief in the 2018 Lion varsity football team by joining the community send-off this Thursday morning, Dec. 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bank Park.

Lions collect 5th trophy, advance to semifinal

Overcoming an 0-5 start in what may be the worst pre-district record of any team to make it to the fifth round of the playoffs, the Lions are now among the final four Class 2A Div. II teams left standing as they head into the state semifinal game on Thursday.

Weather cancels 2nd day of tourney

The JV Lion basketball team hosted a 16-team tournament last week, but games on Saturday were called due to the threat of icy weather. The teams competed on Thursday, but didn’t come back for the second day of games on Saturday.

Ranger game delayed

The varsity Lady Lions lost two of three games in the Breckenridge Tournament last week last week to go to 8-6 for the season. Albany was scheduled to host Ranger on Tuesday, but the game was moved back a day due to the sudden death over the weekend of a school coach.
