Christmas feast set Dec. 25

Members of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will once again prepare a Christmas feast for those that might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy a holiday meal, but they will  not offer a dine-in option this year.

“We will deliver a holiday dinner of turkey, brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll, corn, green beans, and dessert to each of the seniors that get Vittles by Vehicle on Christmas Day,” said Tamara Trail, one of the organizers. “And we want to make sure that anyone else who is alone for Christmas, or who can’t cook, still has a good meal. But we will not have a dine-in option this year.”

Because of travel plans, health, and family needs, fewer people were available to assist with the meal this year. Rather than cancel the event, organizers decided to scale it back a little.

“People can come by the church fellowship hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and make a to-go plate,” said Trail. “We will also deliver to those who are unable to come to the church if they call us.”

Pastor Anthony Ceder and Trail both requested that folks call and let church secretary Kelie Sherwood know if they want a Christmas Day meal.

“It would be helpful if folks would let us know ahead of time, so we can have enough food prepared,” said Ceder. “It would be appreciated if folks would let us know if we need to deliver, or if they can stop by and dish out their own plate.”
