Students participate at FFA banquet

The Oil Belt District banquet and district talent contest were held last Monday, Dec. 3 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene and local FFA members were in attendance.

“We didn’t have many members who were able to go, with all the other activities that are taking place right now,” said FFA advisor Chris Beard. “But Seth Hale, who is a district officer, helped run the meeting, and Alayna Koemel served as the Albany FFA voting delegate.”

Albany was presented with several LDE award banners that were won during the Leadership Development Events this fall.

Show Animals

The county stock show is less than two months away, and it is time for even the smaller animals to be placed on feed.

“Chickens came in last week, and rabbits started coming in last weekend,” said Beard. “All of our final validations must be done by this Saturday, Dec. 15! We have already turned in all of our county and major stock show entries.”

Beard added that he will be sending out parent packages to make sure that they are aware of animal husbandry needs that may need to be taken care of over the holiday break.

“Of course the animals need to be fed and watered,” Beard said. “But the packages include information on deworming schedules, and also reminds parents that if it is freezing, drinking water will need to be hauled to the ag barn for project animals.”
