ELVA SANDERS

Elva Sanders, age 83 of Albany, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18 at the Albany Cemetery with Bob Skelton officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 17 at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.

SHARON MATTHEWS

Sharon Osborne Matthews passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023, at the age of 84, in Abilene, Texas. Sharon was born in San Angelo, Texas, the only child of G.C. and Iris Dell Osborne Jr. She moved to Abilene as a young child and graduated from Abilene High School in 1956, where she was head cheerleader for the legendary Eagles. She lived in south Texas after college and returned to Abilene in 1972.

JAMES TURNER

James Lee Turner, age 77 of Newport Beach died Feb. 18, 2023 surrounded by loved ones after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia. James was born Nov. 9, 1945 to Martyne Lanoe Black and Russell Frank Wade in Abilene, Texas. After playing varsity football and graduating from Cooper High School in 1963, James went on to study political science at the University of Arizona where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. During his freshman year, he met Nancy Odell Turner and when, according to Nancy, he showed up for their first date wearing cowboy boots, she knew she was in trouble.

GLENN BREEDEN

Weldon Glenn Breeden, 81, of Refugio, Texas was reunited with his beloved wife, Emma, in Heaven on Feb. 20, 2023. Glenn was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was affectionately called “Pa” to his grandchildren and many friends from Albany to Refugio.

LARRY HUDSON

Larry (Hondo) Hudson, age 73 of Grandfalls, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at First Baptist Church in Moran with Rev. Luke Spraberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Moran Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

ANN SPECK STEELE

A Celebration of Life was held for former Albany resident Ann Elaine Speck Steele after she passed away on Dec. 23, 2022 in Schulenburg, Texas.

Born Feb. 7, 1944, she came to Albany with her parents, who were both educators.

Ann was an OR nurse who taught five medical surgery classes for 35 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Miller of Schulenburg; her brother, Jerry and wife Nadene; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.P. and Effie Mae Speck.

MARY MARIE WOOLAVER COTTON

Mary Marie Woolaver Cotton, 92, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, in Abilene, Texas.

Marie was born January 24, 1930, to Thomas Sim and Nora Stamford Weir in Hamilton. She was the youngest of five children. Marie received her education at Hamilton Schools, subsequently completing formal education through home course work. During World War II, Marie moved with her parents to Fort Worth.

On Dec. 7, 1946, Marie married Jacob Vernon (Jay) Woolaver, her husband of 53 years. They had three children: Sandra Kay, Donna Sue, and Joseph Randal (Randy).

Vernon LaVerrel Floyd Dennis Pittman passed into the arms of Jesus on Dec. 16, 2022 at 1:00 a.m., in the presence of her loving daughter Ginger Dennis Locker at Redstone Park Assisted Living in Brownwood, Texas.

DEBRIA TREJO

Debria Raye Trejo, 56, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022. Debria was born Apr. 22, 1966, in Sunset, Texas, to Mary Ann Reimer and James Ross Townsend. She graduated from Baird High School in 1985.

On Aug. 18, 1985, she married Steve Trejo in Albany, Texas, and they later welcomed three children. In 2006, she earned her degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling which enabled her to help others even more.

OLIVIA REAMES

Olivia Reames, age 85 of Albany, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2022. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Albany Cemetery pavilion with Jeff Pleasant officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Olivia Mae Salters was born July 19, 1937 in Olney, Texas to Gordon Salters and Nancy Catherine Sides Salters. She graduated in May of 1955 from Albany High School. She met John Douglas Reames in October of 1954 on a blind date. They were soon married on June 14, 1955.
