Band makes school history at area contest

Albany’s Ragin’ Red Band recorded another “first” last Saturday, qualifying for the finals in the UIL Area Marching Contest and finishing sixth overall. The group was ninth out of the top 10 bands that advanced to the finals seeking one of the five spots that moves on to the state marching contest in San Antonio next week.

Trick-or-treat event set downtown

The downtown merchants are again hosting the annual Main Street Trick or Treat on Tuesday,andthePTOhasmoved its traditional costume contest to the same day. The events are both being held on Halloween Day, with trick-or-treating scheduled for 4:00until5:00p.m.Thecostume contest is set to start at 5:30 p.m.

OJAC to host Taco Tailgate

Commissioners okay resolution

Shackelford County Commissioners awarded bids for bulk fuel and mowing, as well as adopting a “Resolution for Freedom from Medical Mandates.” The document, which was unanimously approved on a motion by Lanham Martin, seconded byAceReames,bans“overreaching” governmental masking, vaccination, and other types of medical mandates in Shackelford County, instead leaving those to “personal choice.” The resolution in its entirety can be read on the county’s website at shackelfordcounty.org Other Business •Twobidswerereceived toprovidethecounty’sbulk fuel.After review, the commissioners opted to accept Lion Fuels bids for regular gas and diesel. •Texas Grass Shall Grow submitted the only bids for mowing of the Courthouse Square and of two rural cemeteries.

Lady Bulldogs forced to forfeit games

Low numbers finally caught up to the Moran Lady Bulldogs volleyball team. Coach Jo Hise said the program was forced to forfeit the rest of its District 14-1A schedule because of a lack of eligible players.
