By Kathy Thomson Seven Albany High School students will travel to Haskell this Saturday, Jan. 25 for the annual Haskell UIL Pow Wow, an academic practice meet.

More than 150 Angelo State University student-athletes and student-athletic trainers, including Levi Britting of Albany, have earned spots on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their academic performance during the 2019 fall semester.

By Kathy Thomson Around a dozen local Cub Scouts are expected to compete in the annual Albany Pinewood Derby on Monday, Jan. 28, and the race will feature a couple of firsts for the local Scouts. Most notably, this will be the first time the Pinewood Derby will take place in the new Scout Hut.

By Kathy Thomson Albany High School’s annual Winter Formal will be held this Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Whitney Theatre from 7:30 until 10:00 p.m.  Tickets are $12 individually prior to the event and $15 each at the door. Snacks and water will be available at the dance.

By Kathy Thomson Open registration for the next series of General Education Development (GED) classes in Albany is taking place this month, according to local instructor Kenzie Fairchild. “Open enrollment will be available on Monday nights in January only,” said Fairchild.

By Kathy Thomson John Tate spoke to students at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes morning meeting at the Albany secondary campus on Tuesday, Jan. 14. “I told them about miracles in my life, specifically those that happened on Nov. 11, 2017, when I was shot in the leg,” said Tate.

By Kathy Thomson The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting two Weekend of Champions camps at Solid Rock Christian Camp in Eastland this month, and FCA Big Country East representative Paul Johnston would like to see all interested high school youth attend.

A women’s Bible study and fellowship is underway at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church and is open to all women in the community, according to MMPC office manager Sandy Ingalls. The group meets on Thursday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at MMPC.
