John Tate spoke to students at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes morning meeting at the Albany secondary campus on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

“I told them about miracles in my life, specifically those that happened on Nov. 11, 2017, when I was shot in the leg,” said Tate. “We had many miracles happen that day.”

According to Tate, the first miracle was that they were able to call for help after he was shot.

“We had cell phone reception,” he said. “We’ve never had cell phone reception at that location before or since, but we were able to call for help that day and got ahold of 911 and the ambulance. Then they were able to call in the care flight people.”

Meantime, with his femoral artery shot in two, Tate and his son-in-law worked to slow down the blood loss. But then, Tate stopped breathing and his heart stopped.

“My son-in-law knew nothing about CPR,” Tate said. “Yet somehow, not knowing what to do, he was able to get my heart and lungs working again. That was another miracle.”

After the ambulance attendants arrived, they also tried to control the bleeding from the severed femoral artery. Then Tate was care flighted to a hospital.

“Me, my son-in-law, and the ambulance people – we all know that my femoral artery was definitely severed,” said Tate. “But when they took me to surgery, it was no longer severed. They had to repair other things, but the femoral artery was perfect!”

Tate has no doubt that God still performs miracles today.
