Winter Formal nominees named

By Kathy Thomson

Albany High School’s annual Winter Formal will be held this Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Whitney Theatre from 7:30 until 10:00 p.m.

Tickets are $12 individually prior to the event and $15 each at the door. Snacks and water will be available at the dance.

The Winter Formal is sponsored each year by members of the Albany High School student council, and all four high school class presidents have tickets for sale.

Student council sponsor Donnie Lucas reminded participants that the formal is not a come and go event and is restricted to AHS students, faculty members, and chaperones.

“If students leave, they will not be readmitted,” Lucas said. “And the event is for high school students only.”

Out-of-town guests are limited to high school students of good standing who may only attend if he/she is a high school student and is invited as the guest of an AHS student.

“If you are bringing a student from out of town, you must provide the office with a note from their school stating they are in high school and in good standings,” said principal Edward Morales.

The letter or email should be delivered to the high school office before Friday.

“After the Dance”

At The Feed Store

The Feed Store will host an “after the dance” event this year.

“We’ll get underway a little before 10:00 p.m. for those who leave Winter Formal a bit early,” said Feed Store youth minister Kathryn Hamilton. “We will close for the night at 12:00 midnight.”

Breakfast-type food will be served at the event.

Winter Formal Court

Three boy and three girl nominees have been selected for the Winter Formal Court for each class, according to Lucas.

“Freshmen through juniors are nominated for Winter Formal Prince and Princess for their individual classes,” he said. “There are also three boy and three girl nominees for Mr. and Miss AHS. The entire student body voted on the seniors.”

The two chosen seniors are named Mr. and Miss AHS with the finalists from the other classes designated as Winter Formal princes and princesses.

The presentation of the court and announcement of the winners will take place at the Winter Formal at 9:00 p.m., according to Lucas.

Candidates selected to run for Mr. AHS are Blaine Kayga, Brayden Sullivan, and Ben West.

Vying for Miss AHS are Julia Bowman, Mady Connally, and Taylor Scott.

Representing the junior class are prince nominees Barrett Beal, Jackson Chapman, and Ryder Wilkins as well as princess candidates Marty Jo Farmer, Alli Hill, and Hannah Trail.

The sophomore class prince choices are Monte Cauble, Luke Ivy, and Brooks Neece. Nominated for Winter Formal Sophomore Princess were Ana Balliew, Kam Browning, and Amber White.

The freshman selected Cole Chapman, Caden Price, and Hunter Vickers to run for prince, and Presley Green, Leddie Leech, and Gracie Price to compete for class princess.
