Moran teams play Kopperl, Blackwell

The Moran Lady Bulldogs varsity basketball team traveled to Kopperl on Tuesday, Dec. 8, which was a change in the original schedule due to COVID issues. 

The girls came up short, losing 34-32. 

Dariann Hawley was the leading scorer with 14 points, with 12 of her points coming from three-point shots. 

Hannah Noble added nine points, Hannah Rogers had five, and Emily Murk had four. 

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Blackwell on Friday, Dec. 11, losing the contest 57-24. 

Girls open district with loss to Haskell

The varsity girls basketball team made a turn last week, picking up a pair of wins as they head into District 10-2A action.

The Lady Lions defeated both Richland Springs and Roby to improve to 4-4 for the season.

Albany opened district play at home on Tuesday, falling to Haskell 62-28. Details were not available at press time but will be reported next week.

Lions to host Hawks this Friday

The varsity Lions got in the win column last Friday at Roby with a 56-27 romp over the hosting Lions.

It was just the second game this season for the varsity due to an extended football playoff season.

The JV and varsity boys traveled to Coleman on Tuesday, with the varsity losing 48-60. Details will be provided next week.

The varsity will host the Abilene Hawks on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Both teams will play at Hawley next Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Jr. high Cubs, Lady Cubs sweep games over Hamlin

The Cubs and Lady Cubs made a clean sweep of basketball games against Hamlin on Monday, with the girls winning on the road and the boys at home.

The teams will play Anson next Monday. The girls will stay at home and the boys will be in Anson. Games start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

The Red team girls improved to 3-1 for the season with a 27-7 win in Hamlin on Monday.

After delays, Lions finally get on court

The Lion basketball teams finally were able to get on the court last weekend, with the JV beating the visiting Ballinger Bearcats while the varsity came up short.

The boys teams were open on Tuesday but will be in action again in Roby on Friday. The JV boys will follow the JV girls at 5:00 p.m., with the varsity boys taking the court at about 7:30 p.m.

The Lions will be on the road Saturday, traveling to Perrin-Whitt, starting at 2:00 p.m. with the JV. The varsity will follow at about 3:15 p.m.

Albany girls to start district Tuesday

The Lady Lions dropped all three games last week as they continued to prepare for the opening of district competition next week against Haskell.

Albany hosted Richland Springs on Tuesday, getting back in the win column 41-26. Details will be reported next week.

The varsity is currently 3-4 for the season. 

Both the JV and varsity teams will travel to Roby on Friday for games beginning at 4:00 p.m. with the JV girls. The varsity girls should take the floor at 6:30 p.m.

Lions dominate all-district football selections

The Lion football team garnered a total of 25 spots on the 8-2A All-District teams, dominating the superlative awards with four out of the five top spots.

The Lions were awarded a total of 14 first-team honors and six second team positions.

The Lions won the district championship with a 5-0 district mark, advancing to the third round of the playoffs to end the season with a 10-2 record after suffering an 18-13 loss to Windthorst in the Region II semifinal playoffs last Friday in Breckenridge.

AHS teams to play full set of games at Highland

The JV and varsity Lady Lions hosted Comanche on Nov. 24, both dropping games prior to the holiday break.

The girls were in action again on Tuesday in Aspermon, with the varsity losing the bout 52-36. 

Details were not available at press time but will be reported next week.

The Lady Lions will be on the road again Friday at Highland for games starting at 4:00 p.m. The boys teams will also make the trip for a full set of games.

Lions to debut this Friday

The Lion basketball teams hit the floor to practice this week, preparing for games at Highland on Friday.

Currently, two boys games are planned at Highland on Friday starting at 4:00 p.m. with the JV girls playing first.

The Albany boys will host Ballinger on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with both a JV and varsity team suiting up.

Head basketball coach Ryder Peacock said the program may have enough players to also play a freshmen game, but that was still to be determined.
