The Nancy Smith Elementary School annual field day was held last Monday, May 20 at the high school track. Events included high jump, long jump, softball and football throws, a 400 meter relay, 75, 100, and 200 meter runs, tug-of-war, water slide, water relay, and water kickball.
“We did not have as many running events this year because we needed to have enough time for the splash events also,” said coach Ginger Norton.
Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, is pleased to announce that Levi Britting of Albany, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2019 spring semester.
To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
Britting, the son of Rod and Susan Britting and Kristi Espinosa, is majoring in biology.
Students entering junior high and high school in the fall have the opportunity to keep in shape over the summer thanks to summer conditioning programs for both boys and girls.
Prospective female athletes who want to get in shape or stay in shape will be able to participate in strength, conditioning, and agility workouts starting Monday, June 10 at 8:00 a.m. in the high school weight room, while the boys will start the same Monday, but they will be in the Green Room at 7:00 a.m.
Ten Moran seniors will receive high school diplomas at commencement exercises tomorrow evening, while the MISD kindergarten and eighth grade graduation cere-monies will take place tonight.

High school graduation will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31 at the MISD Activity Center (formerly the Moran Methodist Church) which is located on Main Street, across from the Moran Baptist Church.
A reception will follow.
Honor graduates include valedictorian Curry Pendleton and salutatorian Kaylin New.

Steve Taggart was sworn in for his second term as Moran mayor at the regular Moran City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
City secretary Jackie Wallace administered the oath of office.
Taggart, who is also the chief of the City of Moran Volunteer Fire Department, added that the VFD recently purchased a new air compressor with donated funds.
The Albany Dance Theatre Company will present “The Emerald City“ this Friday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Albany High School auditorium.
The performance is free to the public and will include 150 dancers from Albany and five surrounding communities.
Dozens of local scholarships were presented to members of the Albany High School Class of 2019 during commencement exercises held last Friday, May 24.
There were well over 100 separate awards for the small class of 28, with some scholarships split among more than one recipient, amounting to about $90,000 for the first year alone, not counting any amounts promised for subsequent years.
The awards were given by about 35 local churches, clubs, organizations, foundations and individuals.
The Albany Study Club will coordinate a summer reading program for children again this year at the Shackelford County Library.
“The theme for this year’s program is ‘A Universe of Stories’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing,” said library committee chairman Janna Ledbetter.
The summer reading program runs from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the library and will include crafts, books, games, snacks, and more.
The program will begin on Tuesday, June 4 and will be conducted every Tuesday until it ends on June 25.
The annual Father’s Day golf tournament, hosted by the Albany Golf Club, will take place June 15-16 after being questionable for awhile that it would happen at all.
Tee times on Saturday include morning spots at 8:30 a.m. and afternoon tee-offs at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament will have a three-person scramble format, and the tournament entry fee is $240 per team.
Scheduling the traditional spring tournament was previously in question after heavy rainfall made the course unfit to play on for a few weeks.
There will be no Chamber of Commerce luncheon this Friday, May 31 because another noon-time event is scheduled that day, according to Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones.
First National Bank is hosting a free customer appreciation hamburger lunch at the Bank Park from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on May 31.
The Chamber regular weekly meal and meeting will resume on Friday, June 7, at the Beehive Restaurant starting at 12:00 noon.
