Still no vaccines in sight for county

The much-anticipated coronavirus vaccine has still not made its way to Albany, but some Shackelford County citizens are finding a path to outside sources.

Even though the Taylor County Health Department told local officials last week that their agency is “only authorized to administer the vaccine to Taylor County residents,” there does appear to be at least one Abilene option. Albany residents have apparently received their first doses at Walgreens in Abilene, and county judge Robert Skelton said Wednesday morning that he found a link where appointments could be made: www.walgreens.com/findcare/vaccination/covid-19

“I had to create a Walgreens account, but it appeared that there were appointment times available,” said Skelton.

Vaccines are also available at health departments in Anson by calling 325-823-2564 and Ballinger by calling 325-365-2564.

“I have reached out to the DSHS regional director, Senators Cruz and Cornyn, Gov. Abbott, Congressman Arrington, and State Senator Perry in an attempt to get some vaccine here,” said Skelton. “We’re not on the week 5 allotment list– maybe week 6. It is frustrating.”

The expected surge of holiday COVID cases has not let up, with the Shackelford County Health Clinic recording 28 positive tests in the last two weeks.
