The 34th annual First Impressions Invitational Pig Sale in Shackelford County will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the county show barn.

Last Saturday, Aug. 29,the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock show barn was cleaned up and is now ready to welcome visitors next weekend.

Albany ag instructor Chris Beard said there was a lot of participation during the clean-up, and it was complete in about an hour.

Mike Parsons, who helps organize the sale each year, said there will be 100 head of prospects available to sell, with auctioneer John Cooper out of Oklahoma heading up the bidding.

There are 16 finalized consignors from all over the country for this year’s pig sale, including Polich Show Pigs, Lewis Genetics, Cain Brothers, Eggers Show Pigs, Brinning Genetics, Gerot Show Pigs, Shult Show Pigs, Chad Arnold Show Pigs, and Planther Show Pigs, all out of Iowa.

Also attending will be Causmaker Genetics from Illinois, Kilmers Swine Farm and Lamle & Miller Show Pigs from Indiana, Hill-Coyote Show Pigs from Oklahoma, Lockner Genetics from Kansas, and C-4 Showpigs and RW Genetics from Texas.

Prize money sponsors for the sale are EZ Feed & Supply and Linders Feed.

The longest running pig sale in Texas benefits all Shackelford County youth who exhibit at the county livestock show.

Youth interested in agriculture can join FFA if they are in a high school ag class or join 4-H if they are between the ages of eight and 18.
