Seniors crowned at Winter Formal

The Albany High School Student Council hosted the annual Winter Formal last Saturday, with class royalty presented, including the crowning of Mr. and Miss AHS.
The gala was held at the Whitney Theatre, with music provided by disc jockey Martin Priteo, Jr.
Seniors Ella Webb and Cole Chapman were selected by the student body to serve as this year’s Mr. and Miss AHS.
Other senior nominees for the honor included Brooke Kayga, Gracie Price, Briley Tabor, Coy Lefevre, London Fuentes, and Miles McCloy.
Class princes and princesses were also announced for the three under-classes including Zane Waggoner and Jaci Chapman for the junior class, Abi Hale and Will LeMay for the sophomores, and freshmen Kaisley Bartee and Tony Wheeler.
Miss AHS
Ella Webb, daughter of Glen and Misti Webb, was crowned Miss AHS.
She has served as a varsity cheerleader for three years, including head cheerleader her senior year. She has been selected as an FCA All-Star cheerleader and also has earned All-American Cheerleader status.
Ella participated in volleyball all four years of her high school career, serving as a team captain her senior year and earning second team All-District honors. She also has been named to the Max Preps All Hustle Team.
Webb played tennis her sophomore and junior years, advancing to the regional tournament in girls doubles both years. She plans to compete in tennis again this spring.
She has been active in girls track, earning district championships in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, advancing to the area and regional meets in both events. She also was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. She plans to continue to compete this spring.
Webb is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. She advanced to the state finals in Cross X debate her sophomore year, after receiving best public speaker at the district level. She has been active in UIL current events and ready writing competition, one act play, and served on the Lions Roar newspaper staff for two years.
She is currently at the top of her graduating class of 2023, and will study sciences and humanities at Texas Tech University in the fall. She was been admitted into the Texas Tech Honors College and received the Presidential Merit Scholarship, the University’s highest distinction for an incoming freshman.
She has attended Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas for eight years, receiving the camp’s “M” award. She will serve as a camp counselor this year.
Mr. AHS
Cole Chapman is the son of Clint and Christi Chapman and is a member of Maranatha Fellowship in Albany.
He is a member of the National Honor Society, serving this year as the secretary, and has been a member of the Student Council and served as parliamentarian his junior year.
Chapman has been a class officer the last two years, elected as vice-president as a junior and serving as parliamentarian this year. He was also class favorite his freshman year, Homecoming Prince his sophomore year, and was a nominee for Homecoming King his senior year.
He has a number of accolades in athletics, serving as quarterback the last two years, including leading the team to the Class 2A Div. II state championship this year. He has received All-District football honors the last three years as a wide receiver one year and MVP as a quarterback his junior and senior years.
He played varsity basketball in grades 9-11, earning newcomer of the year as a freshman, all-district and offensive player of the year his sophomore year, and offensive player of the year and All Big Country first team his junior year.
Chapman also excels in baseball and track. He was co-pitcher of the year and Firearm award winner in grade 10, and first team all-district, Firearm and Big Country Preps first team his junior year. He has been selected to play for the FCA All-Star team in June.
He qualified for the state track meet in the high jump his sophomore year, returning his junior year in the triple jump. He also has served on the council for the Feed Store both junior and senior years.
