Polo on the Prairie, originally scheduled for May 2020 and then resceduled for Sept. 26, has been now been cancelled for 2020.

The event is now planned for Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Musselman Brothers’ Lazy 3 ranch in Albany, with Clay Walker as the entertainment.

Polo on the Prairie chair Melinda Musselman said that POP has become a West Texas tradition, and its 2020 cancellation left polo players and spectators alike disappointed.

The MD Anderson doctors and staff enjoy the change of pace from Houston, and they too missed the event this year.

“We all have learned to make adjustments over the last several months, and this is no exception,” Musselman said. “Even with the venue outdoors, the hospital could not take the risk of a gathering of 1,000 plus people for an extended period of time.”

Musselman added the postponement of POP this year has given the organization a much-needed window of time of summer weather and a growing season to really work on the field.

“We have been able to consistently water and mow which has produced a really beautiful polo field for the first time ever,” Musselman said.

She included that the family has enjoyed playing all summer, and it was great to leg up the horses in Albany before the fall polo season begins in Midland.

“We look forward to gathering the troops once again in 2021 to raise money for such an incredible institution that has helped so many West Texas folks,” Musselman reported.
