Moran Family Night set March 2
By Sam Waller
Moran ISD has two nights of fun and games on the schedule for early March.
On Thursday, March 2, Family Board Game Night will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the Moran Events Center.
Door prizes will be awarded for each grade level and Moran PTO will provide hot dogs, chips and drinks.
On Wednesday, March 8, Moran’s Spring Fling will be held at the football field.
Hamburger meals will be offered starting at 5:30 p.m. Game booths will be open from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Each class will operate a booth.
One-Act Play
Moran’s One-Act Play will present an adaptation of “Little Women” in its district contest Monday, Feb. 27, at Abilene Wylie High School.
Moran teacher Bryce Hughes, who is serving as director, said 16 students, nearly double the number from last year, are involved as cast, crew, or alternates.
Hughes said the adaptation, while condensed, still conveys the heart of Louisa May Alcott’s novel.
“We still have the main idea about the four March sisters,” he said. “With our adaptation, there’s a lot more focus on Jo than the other sisters. We have the main core value of sisterhood with, in Jo’s case, trying to deviate from what everyone wants you to do.”
Moran is scheduled to perform at 7:00 p.m. at the Wylie auditorium. The program is open to the public.
Moran FFA
Moran FFA members Cotten Campbell, Ellis Hise, and Allen Hebel participated in the San Angelo Stock Show, exhibiting hogs the week of Feb. 12-18.
Campbell showed a gilt on Sunday, Feb. 12. Hise, on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and Hebel, on Thursday, Feb. 16, both showed barrows.
“Although we didn’t make it to the big show ring, Cotten still learned a lot and got to experience a major pig show,” Moran FFA advisor Minnie Denson said. “Ellis and Allen both had a good experience and learned a lot for next year.”
Moran’s meat judging teams took part in contests at the San Angelo and San Antonio livestock shows over the weekend. On Saturday, Feb. 18, Team 1 placed 23rd with Team 2 43rd at San Angelo. On Sunday, Feb. 19, Team 1 was 29th and Team 2 was 59th at San Antonio.
