Event raises missions funding

Friendship Baptist Church members held their fifth annual Harvest Acres on Saturday, Nov. 21.

“The frozen casseroles were the first thing to fly out the door” said pastor Paul Johnston. “We also quickly sold out of our soups, stew, and pulled pork.”

Johnston said there was a steady stream of people during the day who were purchasing the assorted baked goods, crafts, and homemade jams and jellies.

More than $4,800 was raised for the account that provides funds for local mission projects and needs.

“This money is used throughout the year to help local citizens,” said Johnston. “We are here to help when we are needed.”

Even though Harvest Acres was initially intended as an event to raise funds for local missions, it has turned into one of the church’s favorite days as well, according to the pastor.

“The day was wonderful just getting to visit with people you don’t normally see or you don’t get a chance to talk to,” Johnston said.

While many items were sold and everything sold except one item on the Silent Auction, Johnston said they still have some crafts, wooden crosses, jellies, and wooden stools left.

“If someone missed Saturday and would like to look at what we have left, they can contact me, and we will set up a time to meet with them,” he said.

Johnston expressed the congregation’s appreciation to members of the community who continue to support the church’s mission work.
