Albany ISD Junior High and Nancy Smith Elementary students have been competing in various UIL academic events over the last week through Tuesday, Dec. 8.

This year, all events were conducted locally with no outside audiences allowed.

Junior high UIL coordinator Melanie Anderson said contests were run the same even though they were being held locally.

“All UIL rules and time limits remain the same,” said Anderson.

All writing events were conducted earlier to allow the specific judges for each event additional time, with all entries being submitted via email.

The speaking events were recorded and sent to judges to be scored.

Any additional events were conducted on paper as usual, but were submitted for remote judging, with all results being returned via email.

There are nine second graders, 20 third graders, nine fourth graders, nine fifth graders, and 27 sixth graders competing from NSES.
