Changes made to 5th quarter youth events

After-game fellowships following varsity football games will start on Sept. 17 following the Albany’s first home game of the season on Sept. 17.
The varsity Lions will play on the road for three Fridays starting this week before opening at home against Haskell on Sept. 12.
The traditional “Fifth Quarter” fellowships will come with some changes this year, according to Tisha Wilkins, executive director of The Feed Store, which coordinates the events.
While the local youth facility helps organize and host the fellowships, local churches takes turns providing snacks and drinks.
“This year only the junior high students will meet after home games at The Feed Store,” Wilkins said. “We are splitting the locations for junior high and high school.”
High school students will meet at the field house parking lot or in the Green Room, depending on weather.
“We haven’t had many high school students attending, so we decided to try separating the two age groups,” she said. “We will provide food and drinks at both locations.”
Wilkins noted that the junior high fellowships will end at 11:00 p.m., while the gathering for the high school will be more come and go.
“We will be able to catch the football players as they leave the locker room after the game and give them the chance to meet up with other high school students,” Wilkins said. “There won’t be activities for the high schoolers, just the chance to visit with their friends after the game and get something to eat and drink.”
The high school fellowship will also end by 11:00 p.m. or sooner.
There are five home games this season, starting with the Haskell game on Sept. 17. Host churches for the first week will be the Albany Church of Christ, Maranatha Fellowship and the Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church.
Other home games are Sept. 24, Oct. 1 (homecoming), Oct. 15, and Oct. 29.
