6 students to compete at regional UIL
By Donnie A. Lucas
Six Albany High School students will compete in the Region II-2A UIL Academic Meet on Friday at Grayson College in Denison.
Five of the qualifiers are entered in journalism events, with one student advancing to the regional level in computer science.
The students qualified for the regional level contest by placing in the top three at the district meet held in Stamford in March.
“We have two kids who are competing in two events, with the other four qualifying in one event each,” UIL coordinator Rick Davis said. “This is a smaller group than we had last year, but some of them also qualified last year, so they should have a little advantage of having been there before.”
Competitors placing in the top three places at the regional contest will advance to the State UIL Meet in Austin on May 17-18.
The group will leave Thursday afternoon and will be accompanied by sponsors Donnie Lucas, Matthew Howard, and Jennifer Everitt.
All of the contests Albany qualified for this year will be held on Friday at Grayson College.
