FFA News
While several Moran FFA students are still involved in stock shows, other contests also have Moran participants.
The forage team of Sam Stanley, Audri Ortega, Bailey Prater and Briley Chadwick competed in two online contests the week of Feb 17-21. In the Waskom contest, Moran placed sixth out of 18 teams. In the Schulenburg contest, Moran finished eighth out of 15 teams.
“The students have to complete a written exam based on a textbook they have to read,” FFA advisor Robert Stanley said. “Then they have a problem-solving portion, where students have math questions and have to calculate numbers to solve the problem. Finally, the students have to identify grasses, weeds, and legumes.”
On Feb. 17, Rayni Vinson exhibited one of her three steers at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Vinson did not make the sale, competing in a class of more than 30 steers.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the horse judging and veterinary science team competed at the Justin Northwest contest held at Denton. In horse judging, Sam Stanley, Leanna Sikes, Vinson and Miguel Rodriguez placed 29th. In vet science, Bradee Stautzenberger, Jayla Bussell, Chase Murk, Ortega and Chadwick placed 10th out of 25 teams.
The next two weeks, which includes Moran’s spring break, will see students competing and showing animal projects at Houston and Austin.
