Albany Classic Car Show reset for May 10
By Melinda L. Lucas
Organizers are backed up and ready for a second attempt at the 18th annual Albany Classic Car Show Saturday, May 10 after the original April 19 date was rained out.
Volunteer Robert Snyder is hopeful that next Saturday will dawn as the kind of day that classic car owners will enjoy getting their vehicles out into.
“If it rains again, and I can get some more donations from farmers and ranchers who want guaranteed water in their tanks, we might set a second rainout date,” Snyder joked.
Activities will actually begin on Friday, May 9, starting with a hamburger supper at about 6:00 p.m. in the Bank Park, with proceeds from the “Burger Burn” to help fund the car show.
The traditional burn-out is expected to start about 6:30 p.m
There is no formal “cruise night” on Friday, but Snyder invited anyone who would like to take their classic and antique vehicles down “the drag” to do so during the evening.
Snyder said he has had a good response so far from owners planning to attend the event on Saturday.
Registration for exhibitors is from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle, with over 25 classes to enter. Specialty and individual awards will be handed out for both cars and trucks.
“We have both a car and truck division to Best of Show, and people really like that,” he said. “And we also created Peoples’ Choice Awards for both cars and trucks a couple of years ago, which everyone likes.”
Judging will be done by a panel of judges from out of town, with the exception of the Best of Show and People’s Choice Awards for both a cars and trucks.
Entries will line up on South First Street between Clear Fork Bank and the Bank Park, and around the corner to the north if needed.
The show is open to all classics, antiques, hot rods, customs, trucks, and more.
Several food vendors are expected to set up at the Bank Park during the day on Saturday.
Donations are always welcome to help with the expenses of the car show.

The awards ceremony is expected to be held from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
Snyder said that Eagle Auto is once again providing goodie bags for all entrants while supplies last. The business is also furnishing door prizes during the day.
Clear Fork Bank is providing the trophies and plaques, as well as helping with other expenses, Snyder said.
