JACK CLEMENT
Jack Clement, 90, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. He was cremated under the direction of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in LaFeria.
Jack was born September 29, 1931, in Stamford, Texas, to George “Wash” Clement and Mary Moore Clement. He married Karen Garrett Sept. 4, 1959, in Albany, Texas.
Jack attended school in Lueders and during his summers worked on the Bunkley Ranch starting at the age of 14. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as an M42 anti-aircraft tank operator from 1954-1956. He served as Shackelford County Deputy Sheriff for 12 years before returning to his first love of ranching. He worked on the Nail and Cook ranches in Albany and managed the Hooker Ranch in Haskell. After hanging up his spurs for the last time, he worked at Marshall R. Young Oil Company in Albany as a pumper for several years before retiring and moving to Harlingen with his wife.
Jack loved the open range, horses, fishing, watching old westerns, and reading western novels. He also loved his rodeos. He was a fount of southern and Texas historical knowledge and loved to tell others about the Old West, cattle drives, and all things related to the cowboy way of life.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen; and siblings, Alta, Earl, Ruth, and Doris Jane.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Brent Haferkamp, of Garland; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Mary Ellen Garrett, of Harlingen.
