Madison Jones conquers Mount Kilimanjaro

Albany native Madison Jones took part in a oncein- a-lifetime adventure a few weeks ago when she climbed Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa. Jones, a 2014 Albany High School graduate, spent seven days scaling the peak, which rises 19,341 feet above sea level.

Player registration for AlbanyLittleLeague’s2024 season is picking up with several already signed up. Organizer Paul Hamilton said the baseball program willagainhaveonline registration this year, with information on how to register available through the elementary school office.

School waits for state decision

Local school officials have been given the raw data from last year’s STAAR testing and other determining factors, but they are still waiting for the Texas Education Agency to announce the formula that will be used to determine the district and campus scores for the federal school report card. Normally, the letter grade system that is based on test scores for grade 3-8 and End of Course test scores, graduation rates, and College and Career Readiness are announced in August or September of each year.

Chamber to sponsor drawings

Starting today, most downtown merchants are again handing out entry forms for a Valentine drawing, with the winners receiving a $50 gift certificate for one of the participating businesses. The drawings will be held on Feb.
