Moran team competes well

Two Moran teams spent Jan.29 competing  in the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo meat judging contest.

On Friday, Jan. 26, Moran’s Landon Herrell placed second in his class of the Chianina heifer show.

The Moran team of Ellis Hise, Caleb York, Cotten Campbell, and Tyler Hale placed 29th out of 79 teams in the meat judging contest, which was held at Columbia Packing Co. in Ennis.

“Our classes were extremely good; we just need a little work on our retail ID,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “Out of a possible 300 points in placing classes, Tyler had 298, Ellis had 295, and Caleb and Cotten both had 292. We had 1,177 points out of 1,200.”

TheteamofRayniVinson, Kielar Carr, Miguel Rodriguez, and Landon Herrell placed 58th.

“Thatwasthefirstcontest for all four of them,” Denson said. “We had a seventh grader,aneighthgrader,and two sophomores.”

While Moran’s participation at Fort Worth has ended, the show season is just getting started. The ag mechanics team of Hise, York, Campbell, and Zech HendersondepartThursday, Feb. 1 (today), for the San Angelo Stock Show contest.

DensonspentWednesday, Jan.31,inAustinaddressing the state board of educatiion on the importance of having floral design count as a fine arts credit.

“There’s some discussion of taking the fine arts credit away, but they’re not taking awaytheclass,”Densonsaid. “I was asked by the ag teachers association to speak as a superintendent on keeping that as a fine arts credit.”

Coming Up

Aparentmeetingforthose who have a student interested in becoming a cheerleader will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 (today) in the school auditorium.

Therewillbeastaffdevelopment day Friday, Feb. 2.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Moran willadministeraSTAAR field test for fifth and seventh grade reading.
