Funding needed for upcoming Day Camp

ResourceCare is accepting sponsorships for its Summer Day Camp, which starts Monday, July 11.

“We’re taking sponsorships through the end of next week (Friday, July 1),” ResourceCare’s Mindy Ary said. “The sponsors’ names will be on the back of all the campers’  T-shirts. In order to meet the printing deadline, we’ll have to have those in by next week.”

OJAC sets date for workshops

The Old Jail Art Center children’s summer workshop registration is happening now with a deadline date set for Friday, July 1.

The traditional Cultural Connections Camp, which is centered on Greece this year, will be offered both on-site and virtually to start things off on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Two other workshops will be in-person only on Aug. 5 and Aug. 9, then the popular puppet workshop will be only virtual Aug. 10-12.

Pet parade set Saturday morning

Pets of all shapes, colors, and sizes are welcome at the annual Fandangle Pet Parade Saturday, June 25  beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The parade will take place at the Bank Park with prizes awarded for Best Dressed, Most Creative, Most Unique Pet, and Best Fandangle Costume.

Pet owners are encouraged to dress pets up in their best wild west attire.

Rebecca Moon, age 67 of Albany, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022. Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, June 22 in the Coleman City Cemetery with Jim Bob Hundhausen officiating. Services were entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Jackie Reuss, age 81 of Albany, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29 in the Aztec Theater Reception Room with James Breeden officiating. Services have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.

Jackie Lee Quaid was born March 7, 1941 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Jack Quaid and Letha Pope Quaid. She was adopted by Earn and Mable Jones as a young child. Jackie grew up and graduated from high school in Oklahoma.

Bobby E. Moore, age 93 of Moran, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Albany with Pastor Tom Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the Moran Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.

FREDA JONES

Freda A. Jones, 96, of Chichester, NH died Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, NH where she received wonderful care from a staff that became like family.

She was born in Royal­ston, MA, Sept. 14, 1925 to Hollis B. Chase and Phyllis (Moore) Chase. Both were direct descendants of mid 1600’s New England settlers and “planters,” with multiple relatives of historic interest.

Summer conditioning underway

Albany enjoyed a good turnout this week for the start of its summer conditioning program, which got underway Monday, June 13.

Lions football coach Denney Faith said about 25 athletes attended the first two morning sessions, while Lady Lions basketball coach Tate Thompson reported about 20 girls have been taking part.

“We could always use a few more, but I know there were several who were at different camps or on vacation,” Faith said. “I think we’ll have more show up as we go along.”

Summer workouts are regulated by UIL rules.

Machine pitch team advances to championship

Albany Little League’s entry in the Big Country Machine Pitch Classic won the Red Bracket on Saturday, June 11, and advanced to the championship bracket on Monday, June 13, before losing to Wylie.

In Saturday’s bracket, which Albany hosted, the team of local 8- and 9-year-olds defeated Cisco 14-11, Clyde 6-0 and Cisco 14-10.

Albany lost 16-8 to Wylie on Monday at Abilene’s Dixie Little League complex.

12 Albany youths attend FCA camp

Albany and Shackelford County had a sizeable contingent this week at the Big Country Fellowship Athletes Leadership Camp at Hardin-Simmons University.

Local FCA representative Paul Johnston had about 200 attendees, 12 of them from Albany.
