The Old Jail Art Center children’s summer workshop registration is happening now with a deadline date set for Friday, July 1.

The traditional Cultural Connections Camp, which is centered on Greece this year, will be offered both on-site and virtually to start things off on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Two other workshops will be in-person only on Aug. 5 and Aug. 9, then the popular puppet workshop will be only virtual Aug. 10-12.

A kit will be mailed to each registered virtual applicant preceding the camp date with supplies and materials for each day of instruction.

Kits will include a password for participants to access that camp video.

Videos will be posted on the mornings of the virtual workshops at 10:00 a.m. and will include step-by-step instructions demonstrated by OJAC educators.

The workshops are free to OJAC members, with a $15 cost for non-members.

Workshops Schedule

Aug. 3 – Cultural Connections Camp: Greece

Campers, grades 1-6, will learn about the culture, music, food, and art of Greece.

Aug. 5 – Re-Create!

Grades 4-6, campers will find artistic re-uses of found and recycled materials.

Aug.9 – OJAC Safari!

Students in grades 1-3 will spend a “wild day” of crafts and games for early-learners, inspired by animals of the museum collection.

Aug. 10-12– Things on Strings: Virtual Puppet Workshop

Students will design and construct their own puppets while guided by professional puppeteers.

Participants can register at theojac.org/summer-student-workshops, or call the Old Jail Art Canter’s education department at 325-762-2936 for more information.
