Training resumes next week

Local conditioning and sport specific training will resume for the last week of workouts prior to two-a-days for local athletes entering grades 7-12.

The final week of summer conditioning for both boys and girls will start Monday, July 27.

Sessions for the boys are scheduled for 7:00 until 8:30 a.m. on Monday through Thursday.

High school age students wanting to participate in football (sport specific) drills will meet from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday.

Cheerleaders to host camp July 27-29

“Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar” and other cheers will be heard  from Albany Bank Park when the Albany Cubs Cheer Camp 2020 gets underway next week.

Camp will be held Monday, July 27 through Wednesday, July 29, 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Parents of girls three years old through sixth grade can register their daughters starting now through the first day of camp.

Junior high, junior varsity, and varsity cheerleaders will instruct the campers on basic cheerleading skills and dance routines.

Community VBS to start Sunday

Community Vacation Bible School is getting ready for youth to come explore the world of concrete and cranes while they learn how to “build” on the love of Jesus.

First Baptist Church is hosting this year’s VBS, which is supported by the Albany Ministerial Alliance and coordinated by Ginger Bumguardner and Betsy Spraberry.

VBS will begin Sunday evening, July 26 and continue through Wednesday, July 29, 5:30 to 8:15 p.m.

All children who will be four by Sept. 1 up through those who have completed sixth grade are welcome to attend.

Worship night set Aug. 1 at Feed Store

Feed Store youth coordinator Kathryn Hamilton will soon be leaving for Wisconsin, but before she goes she would like to have one last worship night with local youth.

The worship night is planned for junior and high school students on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 8:00 p.m.

Hamilton said the event is mostly a time for praise,  with a band coming in from Anson, and a brief talk at the end.

Mission committee focuses on helping Aspermont church

First Baptist Church Albany cancelled its mission trip this year but did not cancel the mission.

FBC mission committee member Dinty Bowman said the group will instead be donating the funds collected for their annual trip to the congregation of First Baptist Church in Aspermont, whose building was destroyed by fire in a lightning storm on June 20.

Local vet clinic changes hands

Salt Creek Veterinary Hospital recently purchased Albany Pet Hospital, and the staff has already started tending to both large and small animals in town.

Dr. Keelan Lewis purchased the practice, and Dr. Brittany Berry will head up the veterinary hospital in Albany.

The practice includes two other locations in Seymour and Olney, as well as a clinic in Graham called Countryside Veterinary Hospital.

Day Camp to end Friday with daily average of 90+

ResourceCare’s Summer Day Camp 2020 is coming to a close on Friday.

The community-wide three-week camp started on Monday, July 6 and has had to jump several hurdles this year with -COVID-19 and the excessively hot temperatures.

ResourceCare program director Mindy Ary commented that up until the last minute, the ResourceCare staff was unsure if they would be able to have camp, and now it is the end of the last week.

‘Tasty Bakes’ puts Moran on map

Good & Tasty Bakes, a company dedicated to helping people have their sweets and eat them too, is putting Moran on the map.

The endeavor was created by mother and daughter duo Joey Weir of Moran and Lauren Jo Gandillon, formerly of Albany,.

Gandillon said she and her mother wanted to enjoy something sweet while eating clean and healthy.

Water report distributed

Albany water customers should have received a “2019 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report” this week showing that locally treated water meets or exceeds all federal drinking water requirements and that there were no violations during the year 2019.

“The report shows our water quality is normal,” said Albany water manager David Bales. “There were no violations.”

Lodge Installation

Suitably attired in 2020-appropriate face masks, Moran Masonic Lodge #863 officers John Adams (l) and Bob Estes (r) were installed for their upcoming terms during a joint Masonic Lodge installation ceremony last Saturday morning, July 18 at the Clyde Masonic Lodge building, with members present from both Clyde and Moran. Adams is the secretary and Estes the Senior Warden of the Moran organization.
