Community Vacation Bible School is getting ready for youth to come explore the world of concrete and cranes while they learn how to “build” on the love of Jesus.

First Baptist Church is hosting this year’s VBS, which is supported by the Albany Ministerial Alliance and coordinated by Ginger Bumguardner and Betsy Spraberry.

VBS will begin Sunday evening, July 26 and continue through Wednesday, July 29, 5:30 to 8:15 p.m.

All children who will be four by Sept. 1 up through those who have completed sixth grade are welcome to attend.

Parents can pre-register or sign up for transportation by calling Carolyn Waller at the FBC office, 325-762-2019.

Bumguardner emphasized that parents should try to pre-register this year.

Parents will be asked to do a drive-through drop-off and pick-up on the south side of the building coming from the football field, following signs and cones for a smooth process.

Bumguardner said the youth not pre-registered at drop-off can be registered that day but it will be a slower process.

“We would like to make the drop-off and pick-up process as fast, efficient, and safe as possible,” she said.

VBS volunteers will be taking temperatures each day, and children who don’t feel well are asked to stay home.

The theme for VBS 2020 is “Concrete and Cranes,”  with a motto of Jesus! Our Strong Foundation!

Sunday night through Tuesday evening classes will be broken into smaller groups to rotate between supper, music, recreation, crafts, Bible study, and Bible activities.

Bumguardner explained that the program will start at 5:30 p.m. each night, and the kids need to meet in the sanctuary a few minutes early in order not to miss anything.

Many other local churches are involved in the Alliance and help organize, decorate, and prepare meals each night at VBS.

Sunday night the meal will be Mexican pile-on.hamburgers will be served Monday, and Tuesday is pizza night.

Wednesday will be “family night” at the city pool starting at 6:00 p.m.

Bumguardner said the last night will be an opportunity  for families to watch the children perform songs they learned during VBS.

“Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on,” she said.

A hot dog and nacho supper will be provided, with swimming until 9:00 p.m.

Parents can call Bumguardner at 325-660-5420 or Spraberry at 325-660-7516 with questions.
