Gas line work continues

Atmos Energy Mid-Tex Division currently lists half a dozen projects in various stages of completion in Albany, and anyone that has driven around the Kenshalo, Pate, Gregg, Jacobs, and Williams Street areas has probably noticed the crews at work, or at least the construction signs, trucks, trenches, and dirt mounds that are on display during the process.

According to city manager Billy Holson, Atmos is replacing all of their steel gas lines with poly lines.

For the most part, the projects do not involve City of Albany workers.

Honoring health center heros was chosen as the goal for Monday by the national organizers.

Bus safety, traffic issues addressed

The school year is underway and with it comes a daily commute by hundreds of children to and from the local campuses by school bus, car, bicycle, and on foot.

Drivers should be aware of the increased risk of injury or death to the community’s most precious resources that result from speeding or distracted driving, especially when combined with students who may forget to watch for oncoming traffic.

The Feed Store served the first junior/senior Tuesday lunch of the new school year this Tuesday, Aug. 21, and the non-denominational youth ministry executive director Tisha Wilkins is hoping to add a few more names to the list of volunteers.

“Most of the churches that have been involved are repeating, and some have signed up for more turns,” Wilkins said. “But we still have some open spots, and I can work out scheduling options with individuals or groups that are willing to volunteer for the Tuesday lunches.”

Lions outscore Coleman in first scrimmage

Coach Denney Faith liked a lot of what he saw during the first scrimmage of the season last Friday against Coleman – he just wanted to see a little more of it.

The varsity portion of the practice game was cut short due to a weather delay, keeping the Lions from getting in their last offensive set.

The Lions will be on the road on Thursday (today) for a 6:00 p.m. start for the JV in Anson, with the varsity starting immediately following.
