Local churches host BTS events

Local students have several Christian peer groups they can chose between for Bible study, fellowship, and fun during the upcoming school year.

The Feed Store

Tuesday, Aug. 20, The Feed Store served a noon time meal to high school junior and seniors, and they plan to serve lunch every Tuesday throughout the school year with the help of volunteer cooks. 

The non-denominational youth ministry invites high school students to Merge on Mondays at 7:25 p.m. starting on Aug. 27. Junior high youth are encouraged to come on Tuesday afternoons, beginning Aug. 28, for Connect.

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist hosted a “Back to School Bash” yesterday, and this coming Wednesday, Aug. 29, children from four years of age to sixth graders are invited to come to the church for Kids Rock from 5:30 to 7:40 p.m.

The participants can enjoy a meal and a Bible program every Wednesday.

Friendship also has a youth group for those in junior high and high school, and that group eats at 6:00 p.m., and then joins in Bible study and fellowship until 8:00 p.m.

First Baptist

On Aug. 22, First Baptist Church hosted the annual “Messy Olympics” for junior high and high school youth. The youth meet weekly from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in the church basement year round, and secondary students are welcome to join. 

Next Wednesday, Aug. 29, parents of children that are in kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome to bring them to Webb Park for a “Party at the Pool” from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. 

Signup will be available for the FBC “Jesus And Me” children’s group. 

JAM’s first meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. at the church for a meal and Bible stories. JAM meets on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year.

Church of Christ

On Monday, Aug. 27, the Church of Christ has rented the city pool from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for its annual back to school pool party.

The Church of Christ elementary children meet at the church on Wednesdays for a 5:45 p.m. meal, and then have time for fellowship afterwards, according to pastor Sonny McCauley.

Students in junior and senior high meet at various locations for Youth in Action on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Matthews Memorial

Junior high and high school age students meet weekly at 5:30 p.m. at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church for a meal, Bible study, and games. 

If they plan a trip to Abilene, they may gather a little earlier in the afternoon, added pastor Anthony Ceder.

Beltway East

Beltway East welcomes all local junior high and senior high students to join them on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. for a meal, worship, and Bible study.

They will have their first meeting of the fall semester on Sept. 5.
