ResourceCare celebrates week by giving back

ResourceCare employees took time to participate in National Health Center Week 2018 and reached out to the various communities they serve with special activities every day last week.

The theme chosen by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) this year was “Celebrating Health Centers: Home of America’s Health Care Heroes.”

Honoring health center heros was chosen as the goal for Monday by the national organizers.

“Monday, we honored our board members,” said ResourceCare representative Christina Daugherty. “We delivered edible arrangements to each of our boards.”

ResourceCare began in Albany and has expanded to include offices in Breckenridge, Clyde, Cross Plains, Baird, and Merkel.

Current board officers are president Scott Byrd, vice president Pat Knight, secretary Jeanie Stephens, and treasurer Jeff Graham.

Shane Deel, Brenda Hernandez, Amy Kelly, Paula Kinslow, Karen Lenz, Melinda Presley, Kay Toombs, Sharon Trigg, and Jan Windham are board members.

“Tuesday’s focus was health care for public housing,” Daugherty said. “We set up at the public housing authority in Merkel.”

Last year one of two housing events was at the Village Apartments in Albany.

ResourceCare offers blood pressure checks, immunization checks, school supplies, cancer screening, healthy snacks, and children’s activities at the public housing events.

Health care for the homeless was the NACHC emphasis on Wednesday.

“ResourceCare employees donated goods and we delivered them to Loving Care Ministries in Clyde,” Daugherty said. “We chose them because we have worked with them in the past, and they work with the homeless and needy.”

On Thursday, Resource Care held an open house at their new facility in Breckenridge. The addition’s official ground breaking took place one year ago during Health Center Week in August of 2017.

“Friday was designated patient appreciation day,” said Daugherty. “We set up VIP tables in each clinic for our patients to enjoy refreshments and enter a drawing.”

Each year the NACHC celebrates the work and services that health centers provide to their communities during National Health Center Week.

Health centers provide over 27 million underserved patients with access to comprehensive primary and preventative care, according to the NACHC.
